Halstead Leaf Earrings Class with Guest Instructor Sylvie Alusitz

Join us for a special metalsmithing workshop taught by guest instructor Sylvie Alusitz and sponsored by Halstead, a jewelry supplier based in Prescott, Arizona.

In this class, you'll create a pair of nature-inspired leaf earrings while learning a variety of foundational and intermediate jewelry-making techniques. Starting with sheet metal, you'll texture your leaves using hammers, texture plates, stamps, and the rolling mill to create unique organic surfaces. You'll then learn how to add a riveted vein down the center of each leaf, exploring cold connections as an alternative to soldering.

To finish your design, you'll add tube-set stones that resemble sparkling dew drops resting on the leaves, bringing color and dimension to your earrings.

Skills You'll Learn:

  • Sawing and piercing metal

  • Creating texture with hammers and/or stamps

  • Riveting and cold connections

  • Tube setting stones

This workshop is perfect for beginners looking to expand their skills as well as experienced makers interested in exploring new techniques. You'll leave with a beautiful pair of handcrafted earrings and a deeper understanding of both mechanical connections and stone setting.

Our guest instructor, Sylvie, is the Community and Education Manager at Halstead Jewelry Supplies and has been with the company for over four years. She teaches, travels to build community with jewelers across the country, helps lead Halstead's grant program, and wears many other hats within the jewelry industry.

Originally from New York, Sylvie holds both a BFA and an MFA in Jewelry and Metals. When she's not in the studio, you'll usually find her outside hiking, biking, or skiing. I'm so excited to have her teaching this workshop and can't wait for everyone to create these beautiful nature-inspired earrings with her!
